Mt Mulanje is just over 3000m in height, covered in greenery with countless watering holes and stunning waterfalls which make for enjoyable breaks while hiking. It is also home to around 15 peaks.

There are eight government huts: all with limited amounts of mattresses available, fire places inside and waterfall pools nearby. These also have a small amount of drinks (beers and cola) for sale. These huts are quite basic and if you are cooking there a extremely limited utensils available. Also available is a CCAP owned hut on the Lichenya Plateau, which provides guest with mattresses, beds, blankets, a variety of cooking utensils, solar power and of course beautiful waterfall pools nearby. A new hut, named Mandala is currently being built – details to come soon. All huts also provide camping options for guests who bring along tents, for a smaller fee. All rates are listed in our Pricing section below.

From Blantyre to Mulanje Town is 68 kilometres and is very accessible by either mini bus taxi or private car. We can arrange a variety of transport for you and escort you from Blantyre.
You can visit all year round, but the best time is during dry season (May to October). The rainy season (December to February) makes it dangerous to climb the peaks at times but your guides are aware at the start of the day wether it will be possible or not to do the peak.
