Mt. Mulanje Tours

our-story

Our Story

Vincent and Fanuel are two brothers and carpenters, born and raised in Mulanje Town and intimately familiar with the mountain. By stroke of luck they caught the attention of Dr. Martin Huber, of the Netherlands, who supported them through school and technical college. It is his generosity which allowed the brothers to escape the illiteracy and uneducation that plagues so many children of Malawi’s poor families.

Having received such compassionate assistance, Vincent and Fanuel have endeavoured to give back to their local community. Now based in Blantyre, their carpentry workshop serves as a learning centre for some of the impoverished local youth, who are taken on and supported as apprentices while they learn the trade. Former students have now moved on to open their own workshops and become self sufficient. The brothers have also extended their kindness to three local orphans by paying for their school fees and daily necessities.

These acts of generosity are provided for by the profits from their carpentry business and their guiding. In recent years the economic conditions in Malawi have gone from bad to worse, and so the brothers are having to increasingly rely on the latter. It is their belief that tourism is an important source of funding for the local people of Mulanje. Hence, they aim to provide an excellent experience for tourists to benefit both the community and to continue their charitable acts.

You can visit all year round, but the best time is during dry season (May to October). The rainy season (December to February) makes it dangerous to climb the peaks at times but your guides are aware at the start of the day wether it will be possible or not to do the peak.
